Baklawa (or Baklava) holds a cherished place in our hearts—a delicacy we can’t resist, no matter the occasion’s scale. For 32 years, this sublime creation has been crafted with unwavering dedication and care at Dina Foods. Baklava, a treat with ancient origins, has evolved through the centuries. While many countries claim it as their own, its exact beginnings remain veiled in some mystery. Baklava recipes vary widely across regions like Turkey, Lebanon, Greece, Syria, and Cyprus. Some historians trace its earliest forms to Assyrians in 700 BC, who layered simple bread dough with nuts and honey—reserved only for the elite. In 160 BC, an Italian senator recorded a recipe akin to baklava as we know it today, later spreading across Europe with the Ottoman influence. Even the Greeks created a similar treat, the plakous cheesecake, with layered dough, cheese, honey, and aromatic bay leaves. Despite the variations, and whether you call it baklava or baklawa, it certainly has evolved to unite people across borders, celebrating sweetness and a shared culture.

Traditional Lebanese recipes combine flour, butter and premium nuts like pistachios, walnuts, cashews, and almonds.
